Microgreen Growing Mats – Questions & Answers

All dimensions are given in cm (L × W × H).
Our hemp growing mats are available in different grammages, thicknesses,
rolls, pre-cut formats and custom sizes for professional microgreen cultivation.

General Questions

Q: When should I use rolls and when should I use pre-cut mats?

A: Rolls provide maximum flexibility and are ideal for growers
who cut their own sizes or use different tray formats. Pre-cut mats save
preparation time and are ready to place into compatible trays, including
commonly used 1010 and 1020 formats.

Q: Which grammage is suitable for my microgreens?

A: The appropriate grammage depends on the crop, growing cycle
and irrigation setup. Our 400 g/m² mats provide lower water retention,
600 g/m² mats provide medium water retention, and 1300 g/m² mats provide
higher water retention.

Q: What is the difference between hemp and coco mats?

A: Hemp and coco offer different fiber structures and water
management characteristics. Hemp mats provide a dense, stable growing
structure, while coco mats offer an open fiber structure suitable for a
variety of cultivation systems. Both provide a plant-fiber growing medium
for soil-free microgreen cultivation.

Q: What are the hemp mats made from?

A: Our hemp mats are made from mechanically processed hemp
fibers without added chemical binding agents. Information about available
certifications and suitability for specific cultivation standards is
available on request.

Q: What tray formats are commonly used?

A: 1010 and 1020 trays are widely used for microgreen
cultivation. We offer matching mat sizes as well as additional formats
and custom-cut solutions.

Grammage & Thickness

Q: What do the different grammages mean?

A: Grammage describes the amount of fiber material per square
meter. Our available options include:

  • 400 g/m² – approx. 0.3 cm thick, lower water retention
  • 600 g/m² – approx. 0.5 cm thick, medium water retention
  • 1300 g/m² – approx. 1.0 cm thick, higher water retention
